What is cataract?
Cataract is a common eye condition where the normally clear lens of the eye becomes cloudy. This clouding prevents light from passing clearly through the lens, leading to blurred or dim vision—similar to looking through a fogged-up window.
Cataracts most often develop as part of the natural ageing process, but they can also result from:
Eye injuries
Certain medical conditions (e.g. diabetes)
Long-term use of steroid medications
Excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light
Typical signs include:
Blurred or cloudy vision
Sensitivity to light and glare
Difficulty seeing at night
Faded or yellowed colours
